Introduction to the Rhône Alpes region

The Rhône-Alpes region offers astonishing geographical diversity. It includes part of the Alps, with majestic peaks and famous ski resorts. What's more, the Rhône valley runs through the region, offering picturesque vineyards and magnificent river landscapes. The region is famous for its dynamic cities. Indeed, Lyon, France's second largest city, is renowned for its gastronomic scene, historical heritage and cultural festivals. Saint Etienne, Grenoble, Chambéry and Annecy are other major urban centers.

Nature and outdoor activities

The Rhône-Alpes region is a paradise for nature lovers. National parks such as Vanoise and Chartreuse offer hiking trails and spectacular panoramas. What's more, outdoor activities abound, with skiing in winter, hiking in summer and cycling all year round.

Cultural heritage of the Rhône Alpes region

The region boasts a rich cultural heritage. It's home to magnificent castles, medieval churches, art and history museums, and traditional festivals. The region's religious heritage is also remarkable, with ancient monasteries and abbeys.

Gastronomy and wine

The Rhône Alpes region is proud of its culinary tradition. Indeed, regional specialties such as Savoyard fondue, raclette, quenelles and cheeses like Beaufort and Abondance are a must. The region also produces quality wines, notably from the Rhône Valley.

For a successful Savoie vacation, head to La Plagne. There's something for everyone, even if you don't ski.

Getaways in the Loire

For a getaway in the Loire, I'd start by taking you on a tour of Saint Etienne and the Le Corbusier site at Firminy. But you can also discover Roanne. And for a breath of fresh air, I invite you to discover the Parc naturel régional du Pilat and the Gorges de la Loire. Last but not least, don't miss the villages of character in the Forez region, as well as the Loire castles and the Musée du Chapeau.
